.June 2024.
~ summer needs shade ~
June was a light month for photography as I adjusted to being on my own for the first time in half a decade. Most of my time was spent settling into my new apartment and embracing the rhythm of downtown life again. Although I didn’t get out for street photography as much as I had hoped, I did capture some personal moments with friends during our nights out. June also marked my first attempt at shooting in black & white. First, I was hesitant, fearing I’d be missing out on the world’s colours. Then, post development it was so obvious, how timeless the shots can become. Not that this is a new concept, I’ve seen a lot of B/W photography; but when it’s yours, it hits different.
I landed an apartment, situated in a neighborhood I’ve dreamed of for years, offering up everchanging views of Toronto. I’m beginning to see how dynamic the skyline is as time passes and seasons will change; something so simple and cliché, yet never ceases to fascinate me. Over the past month I've witnessed storms roll over the lake, humid fog envelop skyscrapers, fireworks sprinkle the landscape, and happy little clouds blot the sky like a Bob Ross painting. From here on out you’ll begin to notice my affinity for the tower; how it often appears unexpectedly – In View.
As always, it’s exciting to see what the month reveals upon review, as the bag of self-doubt you carry around lightens its load for a moment. Continuing to trust the process, is a wave. Understanding that not every month will meet expectations of growth – but here we are – slow and steady – consistency is the key and development is noticeable. I’m still striving to get closer, and July will be about breaking down those boundaries for interactions.
Although I’m looking forward to share July (already 2 rolls deep) - this is June’s Monthly 35mm. So enjoy some West Fest, the skyline, and little bit of here and there.
